Is AI Distorting Your Big Picture?

“I don’t need a generative AI strategy. What I need is an automation strategy,” said Tom Peck, Chief Information and Digital Officer of Sysco.

This hit home for me.

We as professionals know to find solutions to problems so stop searching for problems for AI to solve and start searching for solutions to your problems.

In the rush to adopt AI, we often miss the bigger picture: technology is only valuable when it drives efficiency and real results.

Don’t get me wrong here, generative AI is exciting, but don’t miss opportunities in your company for non AI automation in the quest to have AI.

When we focus on automation as the end goal, we start asking questions that lead to sustainable, impactful change:

1. How can we integrate automation with existing systems to drive seamless digital transformation?

Adopting every new tech isn’t the goal. The goal is a cohesive system where AI tools enhance what’s already working.

2. What processes can we streamline to reduce errors and improve service?

A clear automation strategy means prioritizing the areas where faster, accurate workflows create the most value.

3. Where can we reduce repetitive tasks to empower our people?

Automation isn’t about replacing employees. It’s about giving them back time to focus on creative, strategic work that ads value to your customers.

AI is just one tool in the toolbox. But the real transformation comes from clear strategies that build better businesses.

Curious: Is your organization prioritizing AI, are we getting swept up by AI hype?
